Why I Run:

I like being involved in something competitive, running is a sport that you can continue being competitive late in life. I enjoy the social aspect of running, seeing everyone at races and swapping stories. Running also provides an outlet for me to maintain my mental health. Stress can be a real issue if not managed. I think it is important for everyone to have some sort of self-care, running provides that for me.

My running career:

I ran all through school till the end of high school. Once I graduated high school I was done and didn't want to continue my running career. Upon starting a family and having children, I was very involved in the activities of my children. I picked running back up training with my daughter. I found an all-new respect for running and it has turned into a passion. I completed my first marathon in Oct. 2022 which qualified me for The Boston Marathon that I hope to run in April 2024. With this new found love for running, I recently obtained the McMillian Run Coach Certification and am now helping others reach their running goals.

My running motivation:

I like both the physical and mental health benefits I get from running. On top of that, I like competing with myself to try to set new personal records in different distances.

My runner's superstition/quirks when it's time to compete

I have to use the restroom as close to the start time as possible.

Advice for other runners:

Don't run too fast on your easy runs, there are a lot of benefits to easy running and if you run too hard, you won't get the benefits you desire out of your workouts.

My Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon history:
