PARKERSBURG-River City Runners and Walkers Club member Steve Browning is dedicated to the sport of running. But, the combination of Friday night's Class AAA, Region IV track and field championships as well as Saturday's running of the 2nd annual Chick-fil-A 10K Road Race would test the determination of the most dedicated runner.
"It feels as if I've slept here," said Browning, who served as one of the computers operators during Friday's track meet which ended at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. "I'm exhausted, but the tradition of doing the Parkersburg Road Run-it's something that I've always done."
And, there Browning was with several of his fellow RCRC members, who also spent much of the previous evening helping at the finish line during the Class AAA state meet qualifier, lending a helping hand to those in need of one as well as giving an encouraging word to those who were competing for the individual crowns at the 8 a.m. race.

Belpre’s Stephanie Williams edges Athens’ Yvonne Gilders at the 2nd annual Chick-fil-A 10K Road Race by less than five tenths of a second Saturday at Stadium Field. The 22-year-old completed the race in 42 minutes, 11.13 seconds.
One of those was former Doddridge County High School standout Michael Bee as the 33-year old made the most of his first appearance in the 6.2-mile race by dominating the field of 200 runners and 67 walkers-winning the event with a time of 36 minutes and 6.43 seconds.
"I don't usually run these (road races)," admitted Bee. "I mostly run trail races. But, I'm training for the half marathon in August and this was a good measure to see where I am in my training."
And, if Saturday's nearly two-minute victory over runner-up David Miller of Athens (37:53.05) is any indication, the Pennsboro resident will be more than ready for the 13.1-mile showcase during Parkersburg's Homecoming.
Third place went to Marietta's Robert Boston (38:30.39) while rounding out the top five were West Union's Dwight Moore (39:23.41) and Marietta's David Bright (39:41.04).
The women's division was a completely different story, however, as 22-year old Stephanie Williams of Belpre outkicked 32-year old Yvonne Gilders of Athens over the final 300 meters to win her first Chick-fil-A title with a time of 42 minutes, 11.13 seconds.
"I usually hold back so that I can finish fast," explained Gilders, who completed the race in 42:11.58. "But, she (Williams) had the better finish today."
Third place in the women's race went to 51-year old Vincent resident Jocelyne Majoy (42:35.46) while the remainder of the top five included Sharon Marks (43:55.88) and Amber Hanes (44:54.96).
Taking home the top prize in the walk division was 56-year old George Welch (1:01.48) in the men's division and 60-year old Donna Graham (1:04.55) in the women's race.
"Overall, the race went very well," explained George Angelos, Chick-fil-A owner/operator. "This is such a great event and the number of runners and walkers we had today let you know that."
