What Should I Wear?

May 18, 2023 - Jacqualin Leaman
As many of you know our race is always hot! This might be because it's the third weekend of August or because you are finally breaking your personal record, we may never know. Something you should know about is appropriate clothing to wear in the steamy August heat.

Let me tell you about some of the best things to wear from head to toe! Starting with your head, let's remember that the sun may be out, so wearing a hat to block the sun out of your eyes may become very helpful on the long stretch of road that lies ahead. People with long hair may want to pull it out of their face and off their neck.

Tops this is something that you may want to be a little loser or tight, whichever you prefer but the best material for this is something that is not made with cotton. Wearing a material that allows the sweat to be removed while you're running like a moisture wicking shirt that is provided for you when you sign up for the race, makes you feel much cooler and more comfortable while you run.

You are more likely going to want your pants to be short. Keep in mind that there will be children and other families at the race so you may want to make sure that your clothing covers anything you don’t want other people to see.

Now let's go down to your toes. It's very important that you wear something comfortable on your feet. Many people enjoy running in socks that have some compression in them. Don’t forget your favorite pair of running shoes. If you are looking for new shoes but not sure what to get something that is shock absorbent would help prevent shin splints during the road race.

I hope that you find these suggestions helpful and remember to be respectful of those around you before, during and after the race!
