Everything you NEED to know about the races

August 8, 2017 - Madison Sury
Hello racers!

We are less than two weeks away from the News and Sentinel races! The anticipation is rising and we are working non-stop to make sure everything is prepared for race day. Thousands of t-shirts are ordered, medals are in and ready to be hung around your necks, and hundreds of gallons of Gatorade and water are being distributed to our many water stops. Since the race is so close, I decided to update you on all the important information you need to know about the upcoming race.

Expo and Packet Pickup: You can't race without your bib! Head over to the Parkersburg Municipal Building at 1 Government Square on Friday Aug. 18 from 2-9 p.m. to pick up your race packet. You'll get to have your custom designed t-shirt in hand and you'll have all of your race goodies handy. Also, don't forget to stop at the Runners Expo to shop around. If you can't make it during that time, you can pick up your race packet the day of the race from 6-7 a.m. at the Parkersburg Municipal Building.

Pasta Dinner: Food, food, food! Us racers love our food, especially to give us some pre-race fuel. Stop by with an empty stomach at St. Francis Xavier Hall on Friday Aug 18 from 4:30-9 p.m. to indulge in a yummy dinner. Don't worry, we even have gluten free pasta to accommodate those who want it. Don't forget that half marathon participants eat free, and two-mile participants eat at a discounted rate. Bring along family and friends for a delicious dinner!

RACE DAY: The most exciting day of them all! The one we've been anxiously awaiting. Head to the start line at Third and Juliana streets to take your mark. Wheelchair participants will take off at 7:50 a.m. Half marathon participants, get laced up and ready to run at 8 a.m. Two-mile racers, 10 minutes later you will be suiting up and taking off at 8:10 a.m. After you race, don't run away just yet. Head over to your designated awards area to claim your prize if you're a winner. Half marathon participants will head to the Smoot Theatre at 213 Fifth St. at 1:30 p.m. and two-mile participants will race over at 10:30 a.m. to Bicentennial Park which is at Third and Market streets.

Pizza luncheon (more food!): You'll need some post race fuel to get you energized and restore all of the energy you just poured in to your amazing race. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to St. Francis Xavier Hall to pick up some slices of warm, delicious pizza. Tickets are the same as the pasta dinner; half marathon participants get in free, two-mile participants eat at a discounted rate, and family and friends pay the normal fee.

Youth Races: The fun doesn't stop on Saturday! Bring your kids out for the Junior Races and the Tiny Tot Trot at Parkersburg High School's Stadium Field, with races starting at 1 p.m. You can register them online before the race, or sign them up on race day. They'll feel accomplished running their race and receiving a medal and a custom t-shirt! Make memories for your child and sign them up today.
